I watched episode 1 and 2 of Double Gloucester last week, and Roquefort (with subtitles) the week before.

Roquefort? Into foreign dairy, I see.

I'm scheduling TIVO coverage. No way I'm sitting through commercials.

Lichen grows about an inch a century - perhaps we should set up a lichen cam?

Some crustose lichens, such as map lichen, grow that slowly Peter. There are many others that grow far more quickly... up to an inch a year, like the ones I can see, on a 20yo palm tree, about 20ft from my desk.

I was going to say - don't the likes of reindeer eat lichen (when there's nothing else)? It'd have at a reasonable rate in a season to be available..?

There's some lichen on a pavement near me which has been there as long as I can remember - it's supposed to be a very good indicator of air quality / pollution levels

Yes; lichens are very susceptible to atmospheric sulphur.

Coincidentally, I'm currently re-reading 'Trouble with Lichen' by John Wyndham.
